In the Devil Wears Prada, the main character Andy struggles with a demanding and exhausting job working for a fashion icon, Miranda Priestly, who runs Runway Magazine. In a specific scene, Andy is attending the opening of an art gallery of her close friend Lily. Through this scene, you can imply that working to pursue your passion is a reason for work that is major. You are able to see how proud Lily, and others are of her artwork, meanwhile, Andy is not working in a job that she is passionate about. In this scene, you also view her in an argument over her deteriorating relationship with her boyfriend. The base of the argument being how Andy’s life is surrounded more in her work than her actual life. The lighting in these two connecting scenes also correlates to the different emotions between the settings, they go from the bright lit room if the art gallery of passion, to the dark night on the street where she is arguing with her boyfriend. I believe that if Andy were to be working in a job that is her passion, she would be enjoying it more, as well as the other significant people in her life would be more understanding. Also, Andy’s life would clearly be, “Andy’s Life” if she worked through her interests, showing how Andy’s life working for Miranda, is really “Miranda’s life”.
