In this image we see a man who is metaphorically holding up a bridge. I think this mural, from Chicano park, is trying to show the strength the hard labor workers have for working all day at a job that is vital to society, just like if he was actually holding up the bridge it would be vital. Because, without him holding the bridge it would collapse and society would feel the after effects of the collapse. The expression of his face shows how he is underappreciated and how straining the job is on him, just like hard labor is straining on each individuals.
For me, this mural relates to the greek mythology of Atlas, a titan. When Atlas lost the battle against Zeus he was forced to hold up the heavens as a punishment. Every night and day Atlas slaved away at this task and no one noticed or appreciated his work. Everyone just assumed the sky would always be where is was supposed to be. Just like the majority of society always assumes we will have our fresh foods, a clean school, and clothes to put on our backs without even considering the workers who made it all possible. This mural wants society to understand and be thankful for what these workers do for everyday.
